School Visits

Would you like Bettina to visit your school or event?

Librarians, teachers, and principals agree that author visits are a worthwhile investment.  Meeting authors in person brings books and readers to a more personal level.  It encourages students to put words to paper and create.

Bettina loves to visit schools and interact with young readers.  She can inspire a reluctant reader, a future scientist, or perhaps the next Pulitzer Prize winner?

Please email Bettina for rates and availability after filling out the information form.  Her email is bettina (at) bettina restrepo dot com.

Due to the cost of childcare, gasoline, and time taken away from writing, Bettina cannot do free school visits.   Here are some Ideas on how to afford an author visit.

Programs

  • Moose and Magpie – 40 minutes, K-2, a fun and entertaining lesson on how a book is researched and comes to life. Ties in with ELAR and Science curriculum. Works well in classroom or library setting.

  • Revising and Editing – This 40 minute session is targeted at 4th and 5th grade to show them how diverse, yet equally important, these writing processes are. Bettina uses her own mistakes and tricks she has learned to demonstrate how to expand and improve and idea from conception to completion.

  • The Magic of Reading The Magic of Reading”  In this program, Bettina will discuss how books and libraries directed her life, inspired her imagination, and empowered her to move beyond what she ever thought was possible.  She concludes by reading the prologue from “Illegal”.  This program uses a laptop and projector (you provide screen and projector) Large group setting.

  • 6th grade thru adult.  “Stubborn”  In this program, Bettina discusses how her first novel took eight years to reach  publication.  Bettina explains the publishing industry, her influences, and how she persevered.  This inspiring program will influence any student or adult— that with the right plan, a lot of patience, and lots hard work, they can achieve  their goals.  She concludes by reading the prologue from “Illegal”.  This program uses a laptop and projector (you provide screen and projector) Large group setting
